Pictures of lovers in London

I was due to marry (heiraten) my fiancé on the 5th of June this year, and had this crazy idea, that I would send out as invitations, postcards with both of us on the front posing in by different landmarks in London in our home town of London. I thought it added a quirky feeling to the whole wedding, I didn’t just want that traditional type wedding that everyone else has. I was a photographer by profession so getting a good picture would be easy. So we set off on a sunny April day to pose for these pictures.

Lovers London

The first landmark we went to was Buckingham Palace, we posed in front of the grand gates, I wanted to go up onto the balcony of the palace, and pose like Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer had on their wedding day, but unfortunately it was closed, so we just had to settle for in front of the gates. We asked a tourist to take the photo I was please with the picture that he had taken.

We moved on from the palace, the next spot was Trafalgar Square, I wanted a picture of us both in front of the lions but I wanted the photo with a twist, I wanted the pigeons to land on our arms. I knew this was going to be difficult, but one of the stall holders from near by advised us to put bread on our arms and the pigeons would then land on us. We did this and the result was great. I know that pigeons aren’t love birds but they were as near as we could get on that day.

The next landmark was the London Eye, I was after a photo both in front of the of the London and in one of the pods. A passing business man agreed to take a picture of us in front of the wheel, and in the pod a tourist took a picture of us both near the top of the wheel. After we had got a good photo, we just sat back and enjoyed the breath taking view over the city of London.

Our next stop was Madam Tussauds, where we had our pictures took with all the famous celebrities such as Tom Cruise, Kylie Minogue, Spiderman, Will Smith and Prince William to name but a few. By now we were really starting to build up a collection of photo’s.

The last landmark we visited was probably the most important of all, it was where me and my fiancé got engaged. It was where he read out a love poem (Liebesgedichte) to me before getting down on one knee and proposing. The final destination was Tower Bridge.  We went there as night to get the photo, as it was the evening time when my fiancé had originally proposed to me, plus the tower looked its best at night when it was all lit up. This picture wasn’t going to be for the invitations though, I intended it to hang in the marquee, behind the top table.

I got home and printed out all of the pictures from that day and laminated them onto the back of postcards. I had 48 guests altogether, but some where coming as couples. I came up with the idea that I would use the postcards as sort of a quiz during the wedding. I knew that I was going to name the tables after the landmarks in London and that the guests would all have to work out for themselves where they were sitting, just to add a bit of fun to the day really.

The postcards looked great, I had put a title on all of the invitations which was ‘Pictures of lovers in London’. I sent them out, and got lots of positive feedback from family and friends who said that it was a great idea, really original.

I just hoped that the feedback about our wedding would be as good. I had nothing to worry about, the wedding was great, it was funny watching people trying to figure out where they were sitting, but it all worked out well in the end, and most importantly I got to marry the man of my dreams.
